New agreement between AAP, Japan Pediatric Society aims to support child advocacy

The AAP will share child health advocacy-building resources with the Japan Pediatric Society (JPS) as part of a new multiyear agreement.

Advancing the health and welfare of children and families is the goal of the advocacy learning collaborative “Framework for Advocacy and Pediatric Champions for Child Health in Japan,” according to the JPS.

“Through this project, we hope to advance the friendship between JPS and AAP and to provide an opportunity to bring pediatricians’ perspectives to the problems faced by children in both countries, which in turn will lead to support for children,” JPS leaders wrote.

Together with JPS, the AAP will provide training, curricula, workshops, lectures and related technical support to JPS members and medical students in Japan. It will draw on the technical expertise of AAP members and leaders, as well as promote existing programs, products and services.

One project will involve translating the AAP Advocacy Guide into Japanese and then customizing it.

Teams from each pediatric association also will work together to address common concerns impacting members.

“The shared agreement will help JPS further develop the infrastructure for its members to conduct organized advocacy activities in Japan,” said JPS President Akira Oka, M.D., Ph.D., of the University of Tokyo.
